ABOUT ANNA

Hawke's Bay artists Anna Hill works with oil paints

Anna Hill is Napier born and raised and this is reflected in much of her work, which features well-known scenes and also less well-known but familiar places and spaces cherished by locals.

A Fashion Design graduate, Anna specialised in drawing during her degree and this strength continued into her adult life.

In 2018 after losing her mother, Anna had one of those ‘now-or-never’ moments that are often needed to propel us into a bold life transition and decided to pursue her art full-time.

Her preferred medium is water-based oil on canvas, a method that allows her to overlay her earthy tones and create layers of soft texture in her work.

Anna’s style of soft realism in her candid depictions of people and places has lately been complimented by a new approach with a strongly geometric, abstract approach in other works.

Her home-based studio in Bay View is creatively chaotic and she welcomes viewing by appointment or simply a catch up over a cuppa to discuss the idea of a commissioned work.
